Shade devices and window furnishing

Shade devices and window furnishing

Properly applied, shade devices can act to prevent unwanted heat transfer through windows in Summer and not restrict desired heat transfer in Winter. Typically this outcome would be achieved by eaves around your home which are usually required in CIC Australia communities. There may still be certain windows around the house however that would benefit from shade devices especially over large north, east and west facing windows.

Indoor window furnishing provides some benefit reducing unwanted heat transfer in Summer and can be very effective at preventing loss of heat in Winter by shielding heated internal air from cold window surfaces. Historically, lined curtains and pelmets work the best for this purpose, preventing up to 60 per cent of heat loss, but more recently close fitting blinds, made from materials with insulative qualities, have become available from major retailers.
