Insulation

Insulation

It is likely that a certain amount of insulation will be automatically installed in your home. It may be worth considering increasing the level of insulation in the roof space and walls of your home (and possibly floor if raised timber) to make your building shell more reflective of heat in Summer and to hold the warmth in Winter – especially given the cool Adelaide climate in Winter. Concrete slab insulation may also be of benefit especially if slab heating is being used. Well-planned and higher specification insulation can reduce heating and cooling needs by over 50 per cent. Even painted rendered surfaces can provide improved insulation benefits through paint selection – talk to your local paint retailer about the latest insulating paint products available that reflect heat in Summer.

‘Your Home’ is a government sponsored information service developed to encourage homes that are ‘comfortable, healthy and more environmentally sustainable’. For more information on insulation, and many other sustainabile ideas for your home, please go to www.yourhome.gov.au.
